Business Manager Visa
The Business Manager Visa is a visa designed for those who wish to establish, operate or manage a Japanese company in Japan. The applicant must invest 5 million yen to incorporate, take an equity stake in or acquire a Japanese company, and the company must have a permanent office in Japan. Applicants who have lived in Japan for five years after obtaining a ‘Business Manager’ visa can apply for Japanese citizenship and after 10 years can apply for permanent residency.
In 2015, the Highly-Skilled Foreign Professional Visa introduced an additional category (i) (c) which is Business Manager Visa. We recommend that you now apply for the Highly-Skilled Foreign Professional Visa directly, which allows you to apply for permanent residency after living in Japan for one or three years.
Requirements for renewal of visa:
- The applicant incorporates a company in Japan, with registered capital of not less than 5 million yen and there is no limit in scope of business type;
- The applicant has a fixed office location in Japan;
- A detailed and feasible business plan.
Family members who can apply with the applicant:
- Spouse;
- Children (under 18 years old)
After the main applicant is granted a 1-year ‘Business Manager’ visa for the first time, the spouse and children can apply for the Family Stay visa.
Requirements for the main applicant on renewal of Business Manager visa:
- No adverse record in Japan;
- The company is operating normally, the company and the applicant are having truthful tax payments to the government, and the operator is able to meet his or her daily expenses;
- Renewal of the Business Manager visa for 1 year, 3 years or 5 years, depending on the operational status of the business.
